Innovation does not happen here by chance. For us, it emerges systematically – from a passion for technology and a constant pursuit of better solutions for the future.

Innovation is the foundation of industrial development — and, as such, of Moll Industries. With more than 1,500 employees and total revenue of EUR 377 million in 2024, we invest selectively in research, development and digitalisation. Our aim is clear: to optimise processes through state-of-the-art technologies and, in doing so, to drive the forward-looking transformation of our industries.

Our companies set benchmarks in their respective segments:

  • Through consistent automation and digitalisation of production, Moll Rail is able to reliably supply prestressed concrete sleepers for the expansion of rail networks, even in challenging labour and raw-material markets — in large quantities and on commercially attractive terms. At present, output amounts to around 2 million sleepers per year, manufactured at 13 sites across Europe. Increasing use is also being made of alternative, CO₂-reduced cement blends.
  • Keim continuously works to optimise its products and further develop silicate-based building protection. Since the development of silicate technology in 1878, Keimfarben has shaped the silicate paints market through innovation, including the invention of the single-component dispersion silicate paint and the first sol-silicate paint, as well as the mineral composite coating for weather protection of wood. All relevant innovations originate from Keim’s development laboratories. The proportion of Cradle-to-Cradle-certified products has been continuously expanded in recent years and now accounts for more than 85 per cent of Keim’s paint sales.
  • The TechnoPhysik Group develops natural-based, asbestos-free insulation materials made from vermiculite and special glass fibres — temperature-resistant up to 1,200 °C. The company’s culture of innovation is repeatedly demonstrated in the creation of solutions for individual customer requirements.

In the area of research and development, we focus on modern production technologies and sustainable materials:

  • Use of low-CO₂ cements (e.g. M CEM II A-LL, Ingolstadt test track)
  • Construction of highly automated production facilities in concrete sleeper production
  • Recyclable mineral-based insulating materials
  • Digital process control for performance and quality assurance in real time
  • Product designs for extreme areas of application - from high-temperature insulation to dynamically loaded railway elements

By striving for innovation in these fields of technology, we secure the leading role and competitiveness of Moll Industries companies - in their markets, in their industries, for the future.

More than a century of industrial experience and development is reflected in the numerous intellectual property rights and patents held by our companies — from prestressing technology for concrete railway sleepers, first developed in 1929, to today’s building-physics innovations in paint systems and thermal insulation. Patents are strategic building blocks for the competitiveness and long-term market leadership of our investments.
